How We Can Help
The Wingecarribee Shire Council is actively seeking new business investment to generate jobs and economic growth in our region. Overseeing one of the fastest growing areas of NSW, Council is committed to securing strong employment opportunities for local residents. The Wingecarribee Shire Council recognises the importance of meeting business needs and will respond quickly and constructively to all business enquiries. Some of the ways Council can help potential business investors are:
- The Council employs an Economic Development Officer (EDO), whose role is to encourage local job creation and sustainable economic growth. The EDO provides a service for employment generating development by assisting the developer at the pre-lodgement stage and throughout the application process. Commercial developers are advised to enlist the support of the EDO at the earliest stage of application. The EDO can be contacted on 02) 4868 0706 or via email on info@SouthernHighlandsBusiness.com.
- Pre-lodgement meetings can be held for business and Council staff to discuss ideas and proposals before formal plans are drawn up and development applications are lodged.
- When a development application is lodged with Council, it is assigned to a planning officer to professionally manage. This officer maintains regular contact with the applicants to ensure that applications are processed in the shortest possible time. The officer is also accessible for questions or to resolve any concerns which may arise.
- Business developments can also be classified as ‘Complying Development’ to further speed up the approval process and achieve certification within seven days.
- Give priority assessment to ‘Shire significant’ projects. Any commercial project that is over $5 million or will generate 10 full time positions is deemed ‘Shire significant’. These projects are given top priority at all stages of assessment to fast track the development and potential employment outcomes. A senior planner is appointed to monitor and guide the whole project through Council’s procedures and Government requirements.
- Council can introduce new investors to the Managers of local businesses and business organisations for further information and assistance.
- Local Environment Plans and Development Control Plans are available for viewing at any time.
